HOW GEOTHERMAL WORKS
Basically, the earth absorbs almost half of all solar energy and remains at a nearly constant temperature of around 45 -50 F (8 – 12C) in southern Ontario. A geothermal system, consisting of a geothermal heat pump unit and a ground loop, utilizes this constant temperature to exchange energy between your home and the earth as needed for heating and cooling. The ground loop can be laid out horizontally, vertically, or at the bottom of a nearby pond or lake. Two water wells can also be used. The best application will depend on the characteristics of your property.
